Reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide involves two main strategies: decreasing emissions and enhancing removal.

To cut emissions, we must transition to renewable energy sources like solar and wind, improve energy efficiency in buildings and appliances, adopt lower emission transportation (e.g. electric vehicles, public transport), and implement cleaner industrial practices, including carbon capture at the source. For carbon removal, nature-based solutions include afforestation and reforestation, better forest management, sustainable agriculture, restoring coastal ecosystems, carbon capture and storage and direct air capture.
